A government funded program that provides support for older people who need some help to stay at home. We will work with you to maintain your independence. Support can include help with daily tasks, home modifications, transport, social support and nursing
In Home Support
If you’re 65 and over, needing assistance with everyday tasks and feel that getting tailored person-centred support could improve your health and wellbeing, then the government-funded Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) may suit your needs. CHSP supports senior Australians access entry-level support so that you can live independently and safely at home. We can help with ongoing services such as in-home personal care and domestic assistance, community access and social support. Contact us to learn more.
What type of services?
Lots of helpful services to help keep you stress-free, healthy, and independent.
We can help with, for example:
- Personal care (showering, dressing etc.)
- Domestic assistance and household tasks
- Shopping, community access and social activities
- Meal preparation
- Communication supports
- Care services liaison
We can discuss how to get the services you need, be it with us or referred to a specialised provider with support.
How do I access CHSP?
The first step is to get in touch, and we can help you get started. You need to be registered with My Aged Care (MAC) before an assessment can be organised. All assessments can be done at your house by a Commonwealth assessor (RAS or ACAT) to work out your needs and what services would be best for you. We can provide support to you during the registration and assessment processes.

Subsidised Smoke Alarms
The smoke alarm alerts users to fire hazard through sight (flashing light) and tactile (vibrating pad) to ensure safety within your home, particularly when asleep. To be eligible you must be:
- Deaf or hard of hearing with a severe to profound loss or a severe high frequency hearing loss ≥70dB (2,3 & 4khz)
- A resident of Victoria
- Not eligible for other funding scheme such as NDIS
The smoke alarm pack retails at $689. Those who are eligible will receive the pack for a $50 out of pocket fee. The fee can be waived for those who hold a Pension Concession Card.
Newsletter - Australian Deaf Elders Group Messenger
This newsletter will be distributed to deaf elders in Australia quarterly with stories, activities, and important information. Expression Australia collaborated with Australian Deaf Elders Group to develop content and connect deaf elders across Australia.
The Australian Deaf Elders Group, a voluntary National Group began in 2016 after many letters sent to the government by Lorraine Mulley of NSW Deaf Person of the Year NSW 2011-2012. Australian Deaf Elders Group was formed and we agreed to continue to lobby for what ADE Group stands for a fair Australia with “No-one left behind”.
